OPS Distance Learning Protocols

OPS Families,

As we approach the winter months, we want to take a moment to remind families about procedures related to inclement weather closures that result in a distance learning day. Please take time to review the information in our Inclement Weather & Distance Learning Plan, as it includes important and time-sensitive details.

Currently, students across all grade levels use Google Classroom on a regular basis. Students in grades 6–12 already take their district-issued devices to and from school each day. In the event that winter weather is anticipated, elementary students will be sent home with a device and charging cord to use for distance learning.

We understand that unexpected challenges can arise during distance learning days. Flexibility and understanding will be extended to all students and families to help resolve any issues that may occur.

If a distance learning day is implemented, you will receive direct communication via text message and email. This information will also be shared on the Owasso Public Schools website (owassops.org), our official social media channels (Facebook and X), and with local media outlets to ensure families are informed.

If conditions in our community significantly limit teachers’ or students’ ability to participate in distance learning (for example, widespread power or internet outages), the district may instead announce a traditional school closure. In that case, the missed day will be made up at the end of the school year.

As a reminder, Oklahoma Senate Bill 758, signed into law last spring, places limits on virtual instruction days beginning with the 2026–27 school year. This legislation does not impact the 2025–26 school year, and Owasso Public Schools will continue following our current distance learning procedures.

Thank you for reviewing this information. If you have additional questions, please contact your child’s principal.
