Owasso Families,

As the school year concludes, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your partnership. We know that a successful school year requires a massive amount of behind-the-scenes coordination from you. Whether you were mastering the art of the car-rider line, ensuring Chromebooks were charged, or helping your student navigate the ups and downs of friendships and algebra, your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Your support—from managing daily logistics to encouraging your students—is what makes Owasso Public Schools a truly special community.

As we complete year three of our 5-Year Strategic Plan, here are the key updates on our progress:

Elementary Art - Recognizing that creative expression is essential for well-rounded development, we are thrilled to announce that Art will officially join our elementary "specials" rotation starting next school year.

Full-Day Pre-K - Owasso Public Schools recognizes the transformative power of Full-Day Pre-K in setting a strong foundation for student success. This critical program will directly support literacy and academic achievement for our early learners by providing an enriched, comprehensive learning experience. The successful passage of the Student Investment Plan in September 2025, allows us to target the fall of 2028 to begin implementing this vital initiative, marking a major step forward in our commitment to continuous strategic improvement.

Literacy - We remain deeply committed to advancing student literacy, which is a core component of our Continuous Strategic Improvement plan. Newly passed state legislation includes a significant investment in our educators, allowing us to continue to provide the highest quality instruction and support for our students. This investment will ensure that teachers are able to attend specialized, comprehensive training in the science of reading and participate in ongoing professional learning communities to master the evidence-based practices necessary to drive measurable growth in reading proficiency across all grade levels.

Long-Range Facilities Master Plan - Our 10-15 year master plan includes strategic investments in our schools that enhance safety, update aging facilities, and create innovative learning environments for every student. As we plan for future school capital improvements, this comprehensive facilities plan provides a roadmap for District needs. So far, we’ve been able to complete the following projects:

  • Renovations at Hodson Elementary, including the addition of a new cafetorium tornado-safe space, new roof and additional classroom space.
  • Upgrades to HVAC systems across multiple campuses for improved energy efficiency and comfort.
  • Technology enhancements that support modern teaching and learning.
  • New roofs for Ator Elementary, Mills Elementary, and the 7th Grade Center.

And, with the passage of the Student Investment Plan in September, the following projects are underway or completed:

  • Roof replacement at the OHS East Campus
  • New fencing on OPS property adjacent to the Ag property was completed in April
  • 8th Grade Center additions will break ground this summer
  • 5th Grade Elementary Center will break ground this summer
  • Multi-Use Athletic Facility is in the design phase
  • 7th Grade Center Safe Structure is in the design phase
  • Fine Arts Instructional Addition is in the design phase

Safe and Nurturing Environment - We are dedicated to strengthening our security measures and will bolster our on-campus presence by adding an additional School Security Officer for next school year, bringing our team of dedicated security professionals to a total of nine (3 School Resource Officers and 6 School Security Officers). Furthermore, all security staff will participate in advanced training this summer alongside the Owasso Police Department to ensure seamless coordination and readiness. Finally, we are enhancing the physical security of our campuses through the phased installation of shatter-resistant safety film on all school buildings.

As we close this chapter, I hope you have the chance to slow down and enjoy the upcoming months and hope it is filled with joy and quality time with your loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in August, refreshed and ready for a new school year. Until then, thank you for a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Coates
